  1. Tourney Rules for Players

  • You are encouraged to play casual bridge on BBO to get used to it

  • Read the userguide on https://villebridge.wixsite.com/mysite/bridgebase-information

  • If you are a Townsville player, Check your username is spelt correctly on the list of usernames on the same web site Else check your username on the published list of usernames – email/ Cairns database etc.

  • Log on as early as possible (but less than 2 hours before Tourney is due to start) and try to jon the tourney with your partner. Then if you or your partner is rejected there may be time to correct the problem.

  • Be registered at latest 10 mins before the tourney starts. There is housekeeping to be done.

  • Put an abbreviated description of your system in the notes section of your BBOprofile

  • Keep comments positive.

  • If something's wrong, address the director.

  • Always use a person's username when talking to the director – saves time

  • Avoid comments about your hand or current bidding and play

  • DO NOT ALERT YOUR BID TO THE TABLE

  • Aim to have a convention card registered with BBO

  • Any questions about alerting must be directed to the director

  • If someone asks the tournament how to do something, by all means answer the whole tournament. If one person wants to know something, then as sure as hell other people will want to know sooner or later.

  • It would be lovely to see everyone's face on their profile screen

  • Make sure you know who is your Tournament Director

  • Try to use 'chat' to Tournament director before the game if you have any issues

  • Re-boot your machine before play. You have no idea of the problems caused by an over-extended machine.

17. Setting up / adding to an include list as Tournament Director (not assistant TD)

  • Click include list

  • click + sign

  • Add users (hit enter or click on pencil icon)

  • Modify the tournament (maybe add a space in the title?) This forces a re-load of the include list

18. Unclocked – One Winner

  • Unclocked moves people as soon as there are a multiple of 2 pairs finished

  • People are no longer fixed in E/W or N/S

  • Can be extremely slow if there are slow players in the field.

19. Allowing extra time.

  • If a player loses connx, you can temporarily adjust time per board – Only “Hosts” are allowed to do this during play.

20. Director calls.

  • Mark the call accepted or deleted

    • Click in the blank space at the end of the line containing the call

    • Click Accept or Delete you will be taken to the table

  • If Accept/Delete not working (BBO bug) Click on the name of the person making the call and then click blue join in the profile that appears ( you must have allow kibtzers)

  • Try to deal with the issue fairly. If someone has been offline for more than 2 mins, right click on that person's name and select substitute – any This can be done from the table or from the list of tables

21. How to handle BBO crashes

In rare cases, BBO will "crash", meaning that a very large number of players will be unable to keep a connection to BBO. The crash will sometimes happen without warning and persist for an unknown amount of time, anywhere from a few seconds to 45+ minutes. You will know a crash occurs when you see 10 or more red (disconnected players) on the table list. Here is how to handle a crash, assuming you can remain connected to BBO:

  • Temporarily change the time per board to 15, the maximum permitted by the software.

  • Announce what is happening to the remaining players.

  • Wait patiently for everyone to return to the tournament.

  • Some players will give up trying to return to BBO.

  • When you see that players have stopped returning to the tournament, then you can find subs.

  • Starting the next round, remember to change the round clock back to your original setting, although if BBO seems to be slower than usual, adding an extra minute or two might be a good idea.

22. Timed out board

  • Find the scores for the claimant

  • Select that board

  • Play the "movie" for that board by selecting next for each round of play until you get to the point when play was abandoned

  • Look to see if the claimant was damaged

  • BBO will put in the actual contract result it it was obvious from a few cards left

23. Adjusting scores

  • Select "adjust score" from the TD drop down menu

  • Enter board number

  • the Username of the claimant

  • If you are adjusting the actual contract rather than awarding an average + etc, leave the word contract

  • The next field 'contract'  type n the actual contract

  • whether doubled

  • which player was playing

  • The number of tricks that would have been made

24 Extra parameters for HOST only

  • put “+allavail+“ in the decription of the tournament.

  • The tournament will wait until all people who have registered to play are seated.

  • Allow three minutes for all to be seated.

  • It's odd how many times people lise connx just before the start of a tournament

  • Change the setting back to blank when you have decided you have waited long enough.

HOSTS ONLY

  • +howell+ for Howell movement. Rounds = NumTables * 2 – 1. So 8 tables will produce 15 rounds. So you will need 30 boards for a 2 board movement.

  • If you want a partial howell, use +rounds7+ or +rounds12+ but must be at least as many pairs as there are rounds

If you want a break after round X, use +break5+ +break6+ etc.

  • Default break duration is one hour.

  • You can remove +break6+ from the description at any time to resume the T.

  • You can have multiple breaks.

  • You can use +bduration=30+ +bduration=45+ etc to specify the break duration in minutes. Note the slightly different syntax.

So for 7/8 rounds 21/24 boards

+allavail+ +howell+ +rounds7 +break4+ +bduration=15+ 21 boards

+allavail+ +howell+ +rounds8 +break4+ +bduration=15+ 24 boards
